Sad News – Brian Haw has died.

Filed under: Uncategorized — madaxeman @ 10:38 am

In the last couple of hours I have learned of the death of the legendary peace campaigner, Mr. Brian Haw.

Brian was the gentleman who created a peace camp on Parliament Square, London (opposite the Houses of Parliament) to draw attention to the suffering of peoples (especially Iraqi civillians) as a direct consequence of the actions of the United States and the United Kingdom.

Whether or not you subscribe to his political views, I think it fitting that everyone should just take a moment to reflect on a gentleman who felt so strongly that he was prepared to sleep rough for a decade to draw attention to the plight of people he didn’t know, and who did do in a peaceful manner throughout. You might also consider the many attempts to do away with his camp, including both police raids and even the creation of a misguided law were really necessary, and whether in truth you are entirely happy with the fact that they were done in our name.

We have a very serious problem with politicians in this country at the moment, and parliament must be made far more accountable to the people they supposedly represent. In his own way, Brian made a massive contribution to this aim. So, as a British man with a political conscience, I would just like to say “Thank you Brian”.

May he rest in peace.
